About Niamh
Niamh O’Connor is a music education major committed to helping students discover their own voices—whether they are performing, composing, or simply learning to listen with curiosity.
In her coursework and practicum experiences, she has designed lesson plans for a range of age groups, collaborated with mentor teachers, and reflected intentionally on classroom climate, equity, and student engagement.
This portfolio gathers selected teaching materials, reflections, and artifacts from her methods courses and field experiences to show her growth as an educator and advocate for the arts.

Philosophy of Education

I believe every student deserves the chance to see themselves as a musician. Music classrooms should be spaces where curiosity is encouraged, mistakes are treated as part of learning, and students feel safe to take creative risks.
My teaching centers on relationship-building, culturally responsive repertoire, and intentional structure. I want students to leave my classroom with musical skills, but also with confidence, empathy, and a sense of belonging.
As I continue to grow as an educator, I am committed to reflective practice—listening to students, colleagues, and communities, and adapting my teaching so that all learners can access the joy and power of music.
